World cup 1950 Spielplan und Infos

This is the 1950 World Cup match Schedule with information about the 4th Football World Cup for viewing and printing. The final tournament of the 4th Football World Championships was held from 24th of June until the 16th of July 1950 in Brazil. The host country had not to cope with major constraints of the second world war. In addition, at this time all the french football competitions have been continued uninterrupted, in contrast to other countries, who have fought in the world war.

Brazil as host and reigning world champion Italy have qualified directly, only 32 teams competed in the qualification for the final round participation. Of the 16 qualified national teams, however, three countries have withdrawn their participation, so that the final round then had to be played only with 13 teams. After a preliminary round in 4 groups, the winners competed in a final round, where everyone had to play against each other. The unofficial final was the last match in which Uruguay and Brazil competed in front of 200,000 fans at Maracana stadium. For the Brazilians a draw would have been enough for the first title, but Uruguay won with a 2-1 victory, becoming in 1950 the World Champion, for the second time.

World Champions 1950:

Uruguay (2nd title)

Top scorer(s):

Ademir de Menezes (Brazil) mit 9 Toren

Goals scored:

Nice 2 Know:

For the first time England took part in a World Cup. The country took the title of the only legitimate world champion in claim for themselves. The three previous World Cups have been simply ignored by the British. + + + The Brazilians wore in their last match for the last time in World Cup history white jerseys. These jerseys should be banned forever because of the defeat.
