World cup 1930 Spielplan und Infos

This is the 1930 World Cup match Schedule with information about the very first Football World Cup for viewing and printing. The first Football World Championships, officially called "World Cup", was held between the 13th and 30th of July 1930 in Uruguay.

In Europe, the South American football got some attention, because of the first-time participation and success of Uruguay at the Olympics. That´s why some people in France in 1924 were thinking about a world football tournament. Said and done, the world football association accepted the idea in 1928 and two years later the tournament should take place in Uruguay, in honor of the Olympic gold medalist of 1924 and 1928. The tournament was held only in the capital Montevideo. At the opening-match there where only about 1.000 - 4.444 spectators, as different sources tell.

The only time in World Cup history there was not a qualification round for this World Cup. Germany, Austria, Spain and England (leaving the FIFA) took not take part for various reasons. Only four European teams traveled about 3 weeks on a steamship to Uruguay. Therefore, since only 13 teams participated, there were four groups, followed by the semifinals of the group winners and the final. Originally a purely knocked out Tournament was planned. A game for 3rd place did not take place.

The hosts and reigning double Olympic champion from South America became the first football World Champion with a 4-2 victory over Argentina in the final.

World Champions 1930:

Uruguay (1. Titel)

Top scorer(s):

Guillermo Stábile (Argentinien) mit 8 Toren

Goals scored:

70 (∅: 3,89 per match) in 18 matches

Nice 2 Know:

For the only time in World Cup history, two teams from South America were in the final in 1930. These two could not agree on a ball in the final, whereupon the first half was played with a ball from Argentina and the second with a ball from Uruguay. + + + England did not participate because they left the Fifa before, because they did not like that at the olympic games only amateur teams were allowed. + + + Unthinkable: The referee told the audience at the World Cup final in 1930 not to carry a revolver. Before the game no less than 1.600 revolver were collected during raids.
